in partnership with Bristol is the New Black

Director: Joseph a. Adesunloye
Cast: Dudley O’Shaughnessy, Yrsa Daley-Ward and Wale Ojo
UK / Senegal, 2016, 87 mins, English

Starring model-turned-actor Dudley O’Shaughnessy, White Colour Black follows Leke, a mixed race man living in London as a successful photographer, where his privileged lifestyle allows him to navigate his identity largely on his own hedonistic terms. When a message from Senegal calls him ‘home’, Leke travels back to a place he hasn’t visited since childhood. He must confront the complex and emotional layers of his heritage and his estranged relationship with his father. Moving from London’s cityscapes to the stillness of Senegalese village life, Leke must find his feet and himself on this journey in order to forge a new sense of self. A striking debut from director Joseph a. Adesunloye with beautiful cinematography, the film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2016.
