The Movement and Fati’s Choice
A double bill screening focussing on migration
Afrika Eye presents an evening of documentaries focussing on migration from multiple perspectives: The Movement (dir: Sharon Walia) and Fati’s Choice (dir: Fatimah Dadzie).
The Movement – “Sharon Walia’s profiles those attempting to enter Europe to escape atrocity and the volunteers who help them.” The Guardian (2018)
A revealing and uplifting film about ordinary people who have stepped in where governments have held back. Skirting the dangerous Libyan coast, the squalid streets of Paris, and the hidden churches of Rome, it was filmed over one year by journalist and former refugee worker Sharon Walia. A testament to the generosity and fearlessness of those people battling to save migrants on land, sea and from the air. This is their story.
Fati’s Choice – Fati, unhappy with her prospects as an irregular migrant, returned from Italy to take care of her five children. She is facing stigma as a returned migrant with gossiping neighbours and friends, who paint her as a failure. Fati forges ahead but can she cope amid a failed marriage, her children being taken away, and dire financial constraints? Alone and rejected, will Fati regret coming back home and will she succeed in her primary objective of getting the children back?
Fati’s Choice will be having their UK premiere at this event so be sure to grab tickets before they sell out!
