Early Screen Comedy By Black Female Artists

(Slapstick Festival 2021)

For the first time in its 17-year history, Bristol’s annual Slapstick festival of silent and vintage screen comedy will be spotlighting the early screen comedy work of two women artists of African heritage – Josephine Baker and Moms Mabley – during its live online edition running from March 1 to 7. Additionally Slapstick will host a free talk + Q&A from poet and theatre director Akulah Agbami touching on the ancient Afrikan tradition of clowning! Please refer to our events section below for more information on each event and its access details.
