A presentation on Josephine Baker’s contribution to the world stage artistically and politically that will examine the origins of her rich performance repertoire and her strategies for survival and advancement. Akulah also considers the ancient Afrikan tradition of clowning and how this impacted on Josephine’s style. Finally exploring the fine line between comedy and tragedy by examining Baker’s depth of performance in this, her first feature film. Plus Q&A. Approx running time 60mins.
