South West theatrical preview Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s debut as writer-director, brings to life the true story of William Kamkwamba, a boy with a natural aptitude for technology. Referring only to a school library book entitled, ‘Using Energy’, he designs and builds a wind turbine and life saving water pump for his village. Against all odds he is successful. An inspiring account of ingenuity and resourcefulness, with father and son painfully coming to terms with one another throughout. An adaption of William’s 2013 memoir, Ejiofor directs with sensitivity and empathy to the material and turns in a powerful performance as William’s father, consumed by the thought that he will be found wanting as both a father and a farmer. A story beautifully told.
Head straight to the Watershed Cafe/Bar afterwards to experience the fantastic grooves of Ethiopian Trio Krar Collective – dubbed the Ethiopian White Stripes.
